This idea came alive again recently in a conversation I had with Rajesh Ramakrishnan on stage at MMA Global Smarties India 2025. Rajesh, along with Nirupama Subramanian, has beautifully captured this philosophy in their book Nurturing Quotient – a result of interviews with over 100 leaders across corporate India and beyond.

Rajesh Ramakrishnan and Nirupama Subramanian have created a guide that is both practical and profound. The Nurturing Quotient is a must-read for leaders aiming to create meaningful change in today’s complex world.

I’ve known Rajesh Ramakrishnan for many years now — going all the way back to our time together in Bangladesh in 2015. I was leading Reckitt then, and Rajesh was heading Perfetti.

What always struck me about Rajesh was that his strongest skills went well beyond commercial acumen. He brought an uncommon depth in areas that truly matter in leadership today — health and wellness, empathy, deep listening, and the ability to truly connect with people. These were area that are valuable to me too as a leader.

Quite recently (July 2025), when I wanted someone to moderate a critical leadership offsite with my Country Directors — where we were crafting the vision, purpose, and ambition for the Metropolitan Asia region — Rajesh was the first person I thought of.

Rajesh led a two-day workshop for us, and what he delivered was exceptional.

Instead of thrusting a vision onto the team, he helped us shape it together, grounding it in who we are, why we exist as a leadership team, and what we want to stand for in some of Asia’s best opportunity markets.

I had the privilege to attend a thought-provoking discussion led by two incredibly inspiring minds: Rajesh Ramakrishnan & Nirupama Subramanian The introduction to their book “The Nurturing Quotient”—which I now see as more than a book. I was just taking over a new role and the team had just been through a challenging year.
